Children are often groomed or extorted into capturing images or videos of themselves and sharing them by someone who is not physically present in the room with them, por ejemplo, on live streams or in chat rooms. Sometimes children are completely unaware they are being recorded and that there is then a image or video of them being shared by abusers. Many of these images are taken at home in children’s bedrooms or in family bathrooms when the child is alone or with another child such as a sibling or friend. Depending on the severity of the activity, the behavior could fall under the legal definitions of abuse and a child could be charged. Childline counsellors have come across a number of cases in which under-18s, some of whom are vulnerable, reference their use of OnlyFans. The deputy head asked to be anonymous to protect the identities of the children. In its response, OnlyFans says all active subscriptions would now be refunded. It said it is now liaising with the police, but had not previously been contacted about the account.

Leah’s age was directly reported to OnlyFans by an anonymous social media account in late January. The company says this led to a moderator reviewing the account and double-checking her ID. She told her mum she originally intended to only post pictures of her feet after making money selling them on Snapchat.

A spokesperson for Stability AI said that man is accused of using an earlier version of the tool that was released by another company, Runway ML. Stability AI says that it has “invested in proactive features to prevent the misuse of child porn AI for the production of harmful content” since taking over the exclusive development of the models. A spokesperson for Runway ML didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from the AP. Those numbers may be an undercount, sin embargo, as the images are so realistic it’s often difficult to tell whether they were AI-generated, experts say.

At the very least, if there is someone you trust and confide in, it is always helpful to have support before having difficult conversations about another person’s behaviors. “And so we’re actually talking here of infants, toddlers, pre-teens or pre-pubescent children being abused online.” It says it has been on most raids and rescue operations conducted by local police over the last five years – acerca de 150 in total – and in 69% of cases the abusers were found to be either the child victim’s parents or a relative.
